Agent Skills is an open format for packaging specialized knowledge and workflows so AI agents can perform specific tasks reliably. Each skill is a portable folder containing a SKILL.md file with metadata and instructions, and it can also include scripts, templates, and reference materials. Agents load skills only when a task calls for them, and a skill written once runs in any compatible agent. Anthropic created the format, and 46 agent products now support it, including products from Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, JetBrains, and AWS.
