Community Collections ​

For a general definition of what a Collection is, see Collection in the Glossary.

Overview ​

Collections in LFX Insights come in two flavors. Curated Collections are maintained exclusively by The Linux Foundation and showcase hand-picked groups of projects around themes, foundations, or initiatives. Community Collections are created and shared by any registered user, letting anyone in the open source community organize projects around a topic, technology, or use case that matters to them.

Discovering Collections ​

The Discover Collections page is the starting point for the Collections feature. It presents all collection types on a single page so you can explore what's available without navigating away.

From there you can navigate to three dedicated sections:

Community Collections ​

The Community Collections list shows all public user-generated collections. For each collection, you are able to access the linked projects, but also to Share, Duplicate and Like the collection. If you like a collection, you will be able to see all your liked collections within your My Collections page.

My Collections ​

My Collections is your personal hub for the collections you've created and the ones you've liked. It is split into two subsections:

  • My Created Collections — a grid of your own collections. You will be able to make changes to the collection at any time.
  • Liked Collections — collections you've liked, separated by a labelled divider. Can include Curated, Community, or other users' collections.

Collection Detail Page ​

Every collection detail page opens on the Projects tab. The header displays three summary metrics for the collection at a glance:

  • Projects / Repositories — the total number of projects and individual repositories included in the collection.
  • Contributors — the total number of unique contributors across all projects in the collection.
  • Avg. Health — the average LFX Health Score across all projects, labelled Excellent (85–100), Healthy (70–84), Fair (50–69), Concerning (30–49), or Critical (below 30).

Projects tab ​

The Projects tab lists all projects in the collection as a sortable table. Each row shows:

  • Project name (sortable alphabetically)
  • Lifecycle — a badge indicating the project's current lifecycle stage (Active, Stable, Declining, Abandoned, or Archived). Projects without a lifecycle stage show Unavailable.
  • Health Score — the project's LFX Health Score
  • Contributors — contributor count (sortable)
  • Contributor / Organization dependency — concentration risk indicators
  • Achievements — earned badges

An Only LF projects toggle lets you filter the list to Linux Foundation–hosted projects only.

Contributors, Popularity, and Development tabs ​

Curated Collections (maintained by The Linux Foundation) offer three additional tabs that surface aggregated analytics across every project in the collection. These tabs are not available on Community Collections or My Collections.

A date range picker in the tab bar scopes all widgets on that tab to a specific time window. A side navigation panel lets you jump directly to any individual widget.

Contributors — contributor-focused metrics aggregated across the collection:

  • Contributors leaderboard
  • Organizations leaderboard
  • Active contributors
  • Active organizations
  • Contributor dependency
  • Organization dependency
  • Quarterly contributor retention
  • Geographical distribution

Popularity — reach and adoption signals aggregated across the collection:

  • Stars
  • Forks
  • Search queries volume
  • Package downloads
  • Package dependency
  • Mailing lists messages

Development — engineering health indicators aggregated across the collection:

  • Issues resolution
  • Commit activities
  • Pull requests
  • Active days
  • Contributions outside work hours
  • Merge lead time
  • Review time by pull request size
  • Code review engagement
  • Patchsets per review
  • Median time to close
  • Median time to review
  • Review efficiency

How to manage your own Collections ​

You must be signed in to be able to manage Collections.

Create a Collection ​

  1. Click Create collection from any Collections page (top-right button on the Discover page or any list page)
  2. Fill in the collection name, description, visibility setting (Public or Private), and search for and add projects.
  3. Save — the new collection appears in your My Collections page

Add a Project to a Collection ​

An Add to collection button is available on every project detail page in LFX Insights. Clicking it opens a modal where you choose which of your existing collections to add the project to. You can also remove pre-selected items before confirming.

Like a Collection ​

The heart icon is visible on every collection card and on the Collection Detail page header. Liked collections appear in the Liked Collections subsection of My Collections

Share a Collection ​

Click the Share button on the Collection Detail page to open the share flow. Available on both Community collections and your own collections.

Duplicate a Collection ​

Click the duplicate icon on a collection card or on the Collection Detail page to create a copy under your My Collections.

Collection Visibility ​

User-created collections support two visibility states, private and public. Private collections will only be visible to the user that created them. Public collections will be visible in the Community Collections list.
